ME & BOBBY MCGEE
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin for the trains,
Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans.
So, Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It took us all the way to New Orleans.

I took my harpoon out of a dirty, red bandana,
Blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues.
Them windshield wipers slappin' time and, Bobby clappin' hands, We finally sang up every song that driver knew.
La da da
La da da da
La da da da da da da da
La da da da da da and Bobby McGee...
La da da da da da da
La da da da da
La da da da da and Bobby McGee!
KRIS KRISTOFFERSON AND FRED FOSTER COMPOSED
"ME & BOBBY MCGEE" IN 1969.

ROGER MILLER RECORDED THE SONG FIRST AND PUT IT
ON THE MUSIC CHARTS.  SHORTLY THEREAFTER,  JANIS JOPLIN, KRIS'S GIRLFRIEND, RECORDED THE SONG
TWO DAYS BEFORE SHE DIED IN 1970.

CHARLIE PRIDE AND HIS PRIDESMEN BAND, IN MY OPINION, MADE THE CLEANEST AND "UNCLUTTERED"  RECORDING OF THE SONG, AND IN 1970.  I CHOSE
CHARLIE TO SING THE SONG FOR THIS WEB PAGE.

KRIS?  YUP!  HE FINALLY RECORDED IT TOO!

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,
Nothin' aint worth nothin' but its free.
Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues,
Feelin' good was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun,
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul.
Standin' right beside me, Lord, through everythin' I done,
Every night she kept me from the cold.
Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away,
Lookin' for the home I hope she'll find.
I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday,
Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,
Nothin's left was all she left to me.
Ah, but, feelin good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues,
Buddy, that was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee.
